This exhibition celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Domenicale, the cultural section of the Italian newspaper Il sole 24 Ore, in the rooms of Palazzo Te in Mantua. The Renaissance residence of Frederick II Gonzaga has a strong symbolic value, for it is a villa dedicated to spare time, culture, dialogue, and reflection. To underline this link between the palace and the theme of the exhibition, the multimedia path was developed in a direct relationship with the fourteen rooms frescoed by Giulio Romano.
In dealing with cultural themes, Domenicale moves between science and literature, technology and art, food and wine and philosophy. The iconography of each room narrates these multifarious interests: by affinity with the subject and references, the frescoes are associated with texts taken from the Domenicale archive. Sixteen multimedia bookstands can be activated by moving your hand and make it possible to consult the articles and video stories that accompany them.
In the Sun and Moon Room, the stars are the starting point for texts and images on the themes of the supernatural, the Zodiac, and mathematics. In the Chamber of Psyche, representations of mythological banquets are accompanied by texts about the human psyche. The Chamber of Winds becomes a pretext to investigate the theme of the journey; the Chamber of Eagles, featuring scenes from the myth of Europe’s abduction, collects texts by writers who have portrayed the European continent. Room after room, the bookstands allow you to browse through the articles and follow the videos autonomously, returning the immense flow of ideas and thoughts that has poured into the Domenicale over twenty years.
