Fragments from Ejzenstejn’s movie and footage from a concert performance of Prokofiev’s cantata alternate in an edited video in which they finally intermingle thanks to video processing: the protagonists of the film and those of the performance end up side by side in the same image.
Ejzenstejn and Prokofiev worked closely together to make Alexander Nevskij and the musical score that accompanied it: this video tries to reconstruct their chemistry, creating and reinventing a series of associations between the uninterrupted music and some footage from the movie. The references offered mirror the attempt to combine genres and languages – musical, cinematographic and strictly video-electronic.
